Resident Evil 8 Reportedly In Development For Next-Gen Consoles
Resident Evil 7 managed to win the hearts of longtime fans of the series with what has been considered by many to be a return to form, with Capcom leaning more heavily into horror and jump scares and angling away from the action-heavy gameplay found in previous games. Now, following the massive success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake, it appears that Resident Evil 8 may already be in development for both Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5.
The new report comes by way of Twitter user EVIL VR, who is claiming that the still unannounced Resident Evil 3 Remake will be the last RE title for current-gen consoles. The leaker also suggests that Resident Evil 8 won’t be coming “anytime soon” as the plan was always to release the next entry in the series on next-gen consoles. The full tweet can be seen below:
But please keep in mind that I didn’t say anything about #RE3Remake being announced at The Game Awards 2019. It might, but I have no idea. I only know much about #RE8 and its new updated engine.

As mentioned in the Tweet, the leaker goes on to suggest that the new RE engine will feature cel-shading, which will allow Capcom to manipulate the intensity of these effects in-game. Keep in mind that this should all be taken with a grain of salt as none of this is confirmed. Still, it’s certainly been enough time since RE7 released for us to start thinking about seeing what Resident Evil 8 can bring to the table.
