Rainbow Six Siege Price Drops After Overwhelming Backlash From Community
It’s unheard of that the price of a game would increase years after it has released, but that’s what Ubisoft is going for with a game that came out in 2015. Last week, the developer announced that the price of the base game and its other editions will be facing a significant price increase of twenty dollars, going from $40 to $60. However, after facing enormous backlash from the community, the Rainbow Six Siege price has dropped back down.
Taking to Reddit, the team at Ubisoft have heard the concerns and stated that the price will remain at its original state. Here’s their official response:
For our newcomers and those of you concerned about introducing your friends to the game, we will be keeping the Standard Edition in the store at the current price.
For those of you who have raised concerns over the Starter Edition when it comes to acquiring Operators, we will be sharing more information about our next steps during the Six Invitational. We recognize that this has been a point of frustration for new players, as well as existing players bringing their friends into the game, and have been working on how to make this process more fluid.
The Rainbow Six Siege team has always incorporated player feedback into the game and the direction of the design. Your voice is incredibly important to us and we are monitoring your feedback closely on all aspects of this announcement. Any future updates will be posted here.”
The situation in and of itself is a bit of an interesting situation, given how old the title is and that the Advanced Edition remains relatively the same; that’s aside from the small in-game currency and cosmetic bonus on top. With that being said, the community wasn’t having any of it and the feedback was made well-known.
As some sort of compromise on their part, Ubisoft dropped the Rainbow Six Siege price for the Advanced Edition back to its original, but the increase for the Gold ($90) and Complete Edition ($130) have not been noted for change. It stands to be said that there is a skin and bones Starter Edition that gives gamers on PC only the entire game for $20, but many would argue against it.
Rainbow Six Siege is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The upcoming Outbreak event will begin in March. What do you think about Ubisoft dropping the Rainbow Six Siege price on just the standard edition? Do you think the price increase is an understandable step given the additional content being added in March, or is this just plain ridiculous?
