PS5 To PS4 Data Transfer Instructions Revealed (VIDEO)

PS5 To PS4 Data Transfer Instructions Revealed (VIDEO)

With the release of the PS5 just a few short days away, fans are ready to sink their teeth into some of the console’s launch titles and test out some of the new features available to PS4 games via backward compatibility. Looking to give us a hand experiencing the latter, the folks over at Sony have finally detailed exactly how to transfer data from the PS4 to the company’s next-gen console.

Sony recently took to YouTube to break down exactly how to transfer game data between the PS4 and the PS5. There are thankfully a few different ways to accomplish this depending on what the user is looking to transfer. Arguably the easiest way is to set both consoles up and connect them on the same WiFi network. Alternatively, though accomplishing the same thing, two Ethernet cables can also be used to speed up the process. One of the more impressive technological bits gleaned from the video is that the PS5 needn’t sit there idly while a data transfer happens; users can explore the console or play a game while the transfer runs in the background.

The video also details a few alternative ways for getting PS4 game data onto the PS5. As one would expect, users can put their PS4 discs into Sony’s next-gen console and redownload their game data that way. Additionally, while the PS5 won’t support expandable internal SSD storage at launch, users can in the meantime plug in an external drive, so those that were using an external drive for their PS4’s can simply plug it into the PS5 and they’ll be ready to rock.

Last but not least, transferring game save data was also touched upon. The easiest method is to redownload any save data via the Cloud, though doing so will require an active PS Plus subscription. Those that aren’t subscribed to Sony’s monthly service can instead upload their PS4 saves to a USB drive and manually transfer them to their PS5.
