PS5 Marketing Will “Emphasize Value As Opposed To Price,” Says Sony
With Sony’s proverbial cat decidedly out of the bag, we’ve begun to hear more and more about the PS5 and the company’s plans for the next-gen console as we approach Holiday 2020. On the one hand, we know that the console’s design is supposed to be futuristic enough that it represents something made in the 2020s. Further into the same news source, it’s been revealed that Sony’s action plan regarding the PS5 involves the company’s intent to “emphasize value as opposed to price.”
Speaking to the folks over at the BBC regarding the reveal event, Sony’s Jim Ryan revealed that viewers were “not going to hear anything on price today,” with Ryan moving on to say that the disc-less digital version of the console came into being because “consumers are purchasing solely digitally these days,” and that Sony aimed to do what it normally does “and just offer choice” to purchasers. “Conventional wisdom and history show that our business is one of the more recession-proof businesses,” Ryan added, no doubt referencing the ongoing pandemic and the current state of the world. “But I think this will sharpen our need to ensure that we focus on getting the value equation right. And I emphasize value as opposed to price.”
We must be more attentive than ever before to ensure that the overall value proposition in terms of the console and the games – the range of games, the quality of games, the quantity of games – makes this something that our community aspires towards.”
Said aspirations likely don’t involve choosing between a refrigerator and a fancy wi-fi router, but, here we are. The PS5 is slated to release at some point Holiday 2020.
