PlayStation 5 Color Variants Hinted At By Sony Marketing Head

Love it or hate it, the PlayStation 5 with its ‘making something for the 2020s’ design philosophy will finally be hitting store shelves towards the end of this year. While the overall shape of the console likely won’t change much – if at all – post-launch, the possibility of different color schemes are significantly more viable, with PlayStation’s Worldwide Marketing Head hinting at other color options on the horizon, such as the concept art shown above.

In a recent discussion between Geoff Keighley and PlayStation Worldwide Marketing Head Eric Lempel as part of the Summer Game Fest, Lempel hinted at the potential for other color options for the PlayStation 5. Keighley asked Lempel if fans would have access to other controller or console colors “at launch,” at which Lempel replied stating that it’s difficult enough getting the first console out the door as shown “but we’ll talk about it at some point.” Here’s the relevant clip:

This isn’t the first time alternate colors for the PlayStation 5 were mentioned by Sony. This past June, Sony’s VP of UX design Matt MacLaurin spoke about the fluidity of the company’s new console. “This [hardware] is also customizable in ways previous gens weren’t,” MacLaurin said. “There will be a special edition for everyone.” With the release of the PlayStation 5 at most five months away, here’s hoping we’ll hear more info on possible color options – and pricing – sooner rather than later.
