PlayStation 4 Box Art Reveals First Look At ‘PS5 Upgrade’ Branding
Earlier this week during the Ubisoft Forward event, the Breath of the Wild-esque Immortals Fenyx Rising received a new game trailer, showing off loads of exciting gameplay as well as the game’s official box art. The box art for the PlayStation 4 version of the game featured something particularly interesting, with a badge positioned at the bottom of the art revealing our first look at “PS5 upgrade available” branding.
For those unfamiliar, such a badge as seen below denotes when a game can be upgraded to its next-gen variant for free should the consumer choose to purchase the new console, in this case the PS5. Up until now Sony has yet to confirm the existence of an official free cross-gen upgrade program like Xbox’s Smart Delivery, so it appears that for now third-party developers can choose whether to opt-in to such a program.
It’s been reported that Sony has no intention of actively promoting a cross-gen upgrade program, though things can certainly change between now and the release of the PlayStation 5. A new PS5 showcase event is scheduled to take place later this week, so there’s every chance that we’ll hear about Sony’s own take on a ‘Smart Delivery’ system alongside official pricing and release date info for the next-gen console.
