Xbox CEO Phil Spencer Says Goal is More Cross-Play Games – Touches on Project Scorpio
When it comes to consoles and PC, cross-play games aren’t necessarily a new idea. In fact, they have been around for some time. However, while it isn’t a new concept, it isn’t utilized nearly enough as gamers would like. It may even be a leading reason as to why some players are unable to enjoy games together. You may have the game for Xbox One, while your friend has it for PC. Unless you’re playing Gears of War 4, which was recently announced to have cross-play capabilities, or a small handful of other video games, you just won’t be playing with your friends.
I hope so, that's our goal. HW2 doesn't for some longer standing engine reasons but going forward cross-play is a good feature.

That may not be the case for long if Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has anything to do with it. Recently, Spencer took to Twitter to answer players’ questions about Project Scorpio and cross-play capabilities. As is seen in the tweet above, it is the goal of the Xbox team to offer more cross-play games moving forward. It is even mentioned that Halo Wars 2(HW2) “doesn’t for some longer standing engine reasons.” Players can be seen in the tweet thread asking about HW2 because it is advertised as having cross-platform multiplayer, yet it doesn’t work as players had hoped.
After answering the query about whether or not there will be more cross-play games between Xbox One and PC, he was asked when Project Scorpio pre-orders would be available. Phil suggested waiting “until we show you games on it before you pre-order.” Check it out:
Wait until we show you games on it before you pre-order. And thanks.

There’s no telling what cross-play games will become available in the future, but if Phil Spencer says it’s their goal, then we’ll just have to wait and see. As for Project Scorpio, we”ll probably be waiting until E3 to learn more about what games will be ready for its launch. Spencer even mentioned last week that everything is looking good for Scorpio, so far. Take a look for yourself:
Great day, Scorpio update w/ team. Played my first games on early Scorpio unit. Games played great, console looked right, proud of the team
