Jeff Kaplan Wants To Put An Overwatch Character Into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The developers of Overwatch recently discussed the arrival of Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch and talk of seeing Overwatch characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was brought up. Principal Game Producer Wes Yanagi explained in the interview that, while it would be cool to see their characters join the Smash Bros roster, it would be up to Nintendo whether or not Overwatch assets were used in their game. Now, a new interview has arrived featuring Jeff Kaplan, who is also expressing an interest in seeing the two franchises come together.
When asked what character he’d personally like to see make it into Super Smash bros. Ultimate, Jeff Kaplan explained that he would love to see any and all of them make it into the game’s roster. He did mention however that Tracer is the poster girl for the game, and seems like the best representative of the Overwatch franchise. He also stated that Doomfist would also be an interesting choice because his abilities would lend themselves well to the Smash gameplay.
Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice. There’s a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I’d like to see Tracer.”
Wes Yanagi agreed with Jeff Kaplan’s sentiment, though he also felt that Winston would make a good addition to the roster. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been opening its doors to franchises that aren’t exclusively Nintendo-based such as Banjo- Kazooie or the Fatal Fury franchise. Could fans one day see Overwatch characters join the Smash Bros roster as well?
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, while Overwatch is available across PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and will be playable on the Nintendo Switch beginning October 15th of this year.
