Overwatch Baptiste Comic May Tease Upcoming Tank Hero (VIDEO)

The most recent hero to join the ranks of Overwatch was introduced just a few months ago in Baptiste, an ex-Talon combat medic with a life-altering past of tragedy. Though we’ve seen a bit of the healer’s backstory revealed in an particularly effective video, Baptiste was further fleshed out in a new short story retelling his pre-Overwatch origins and possibly unveiling the game’s next playable hero.

As told in the new ‘What You Left Behind’ story, fans received a read on Baptiste’s run with Talon, the adventure notably introducing his mountainous former partner named Mauga. The Samoan character not only features a distinctly large, tattooed appearance, but also sports a fittingly tankish skillset, complete with heavy armor and a pair of dual-wielded machine guns. In addition, Mauga also sports a formidable energy shield, one that easily protects from extended gunfire during an exceptionally bullet-ridden event of the comic.

As substantial story detail is dedicated toward setting up Mauga, his hefty moveset, and relationship to Baptiste, it would be easy to speculate this new character is set to be Blizzard’s inevitable 31st character for Overwatch. All would seemingly appear to point in that direction, especially as a new heavy hero hasn’t been added to the roster for a while; the last being the hamster-based hero Wrecking Ball back in mid-2018.

Though nothing official has expressly indicated this is the case, an announcement of a new hero, Mauga or otherwise, may be primed to happen sometime in the next few months. With BlizzCon 2019 on the horizon, Blizzard is almost surely saving some kind of reveal for around the event and someone as large-scale as Mauga would arguably fit the bill. However, another contender could also present itself in something more surprising, such as the rumors of an Overwatch sequel that recently made the rounds.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. BlizzCon 2019 is set to take place on November 1st and November 2nd.

What do you think? Would you appreciate Mauga’s introduction to Overwatch, or do you think someone else might be revealed instead?
