No Other Wolfenstein Switch Ports Planned For Now, Says Bethesda
Later this week, Nintendo Switch owners will finally be able to play the latest entry in the Wolfenstein series on the home/portable platform. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was very well received on other platforms when it released last November, and many have been looking forward to having such a quality shooter title like that on the Nintendo Switch. However, many have been wondering if the earlier games in the Wolfenstein franchise might also come to the Switch, for those looking to catch up on the series. Unfortunately, it seems as though no other planned Wolfenstein Switch ports are in the works at the moment.
Gamespot recently spoke at E3 2018 with Adam Creighton, the studio head at Panic Button, about his developer’s work on the new port. Creighton openly acknowledged that the Switch version of The New Colossus would be an introduction for many players on the Switch to the Wolfenstein world. However, when asked if other Wolfenstein games, particularly The New Order or The Old Blood prequel, would be ported to the Switch, Creighton simply said “Not currently. Not that I know of, but Bethesda may have other plans. And we on the Panic Button side are totally up for anything.”
Creighton does seem to leave the possibility of more Switch ports coming at a later date. It would appear that Bethesda is hoping to see how The New Colossus is received before making more Switch titles available. The reception will also be a big factor for bringing The New Colossus’s DLC to the Switch port, given that it will not be available at the game’s launch. Given how successful the Doom port released on Switch was last year, it certainly seems in the realm of possibility for the older Wolfenstein games to give rise to a new order of Wolfenstein fans on the Nintendo console.
