Dark Souls 1 Mod Lets You Play As Any Boss (VIDEO)

We all have that one boss within the Dark Souls series that we wish we could play as. In some cases you – for the most part – can, equipping armor sets, unique weapons, and spells that can almost perfectly mimic your favorite boss from the series, though it isn’t the same as actually stepping into their shoes. Well, pretty soon you’ll be able to do just that.

A genius modder by the name of Datehacks is working on a new Dark Souls mod called Age of Fire, which will allow players choose from any boss or enemy within the game and play as them. The unit chosen isn’t restricted to any map, either. Players can choose Seath the Scaleless, for example, and romp around Sen’s Fortress blowing everything away, including poor wrong-place-wrong-time Big Hat Logan. Check out some of the mod footage featuring good ol’ Gwyn, doing what he does best:

There are of course some caveats with the mod. The mod will only work with Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. As such, since Prepare to Die Edition is no longer available on Steam, those that don’t have it are out of luck. Additionally, due to game engine limitations, players will only be able to complete a single map at a time with their chosen unit. They will not be able to, for example, transition from the Depths to Blighttown. Naturally the mod will not work with multiplayer either, so no surprising invaders with an impromptu boss fight.

Age of Fire is currently a work in progress, with a demo version of the mod coming soon, according to Datehacks.
