Fortnite Introduces ‘Playground,’ A Casual Training Mode For Friends

Fortnite Introduces "Playground" - A Casual Training Mode For Friends

Fortnite is an undeniable phenomenon.  The game has spread in such a way that it’s permeated video game culture and embedded itself into mainstream pop culture with posts consistently made on meme pages like Worldstar and TheChive, even drawing celebrities like Drake, Lil Yachty, and Travis Scott to streaming platforms.  The game’s player population only keeps growing with its recent port to the Switch, and given the sales numbers of the game’s battle pass service, people are playing A TON of Fortnite.  This inevitably leads to some players newer to the game to wonder: “How do I get better at the game without getting stomped by more experienced players?”  Well, it seems like Epic has found the answer in the form of a new mode called “Playground.”

Playground will come in the form of one of the game’s Limited Time Modes and will allow players to jump into an empty map with their squad.  Players can then practice on how to build certain layouts, like recon forts or ramp tunnels.  A huge positive is, you won’t have to worry about getting blindsided with shotgun blasts or sniper fire, just build to your heart’s content! You will immediately respawn if you die.  The news of this mode is huge, as Fortnite: Battle Royale has lacked a proper tutorial mode since it released last year.  Players will be able to get into a squad and queue up for the mode starting tomorrow, June 26th.

The mode is only available for a limited amount of time, but given the game’s tendency to rotate out the same events cyclically, it will likely return in the future.  That said, It would be better for the game if this mode existed as a permanent addition to the game. Fortnite can be a tough game to learn at this point, so new players likely won’t do so well in their first couple matches if they queue into a game with more experienced players.

Fortnite is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
