Rumor: A New Version of the Nintendo Switch Is On The Way
Both Sony and Microsoft expanded upon their current generation of consoles by upgrading them into even better versions such as the PlayStation 4 Pro or the Xbox One X. A new rumor suggests that Nintendo is working on doing something similar, bringing 4k play to the Nintendo Switch with an upgraded console of their own.
The rumor appears to have originated from industry insider Marcus Sellars who is known for his various leaks of information on Twitter. His most recent leak claims that an upgraded Nintendo Switch will be arriving early in 2019 with 8GB of RAM, 12GB of internal storage space, and most importantly, “dynamic scaling” that will allow the console to play in 4k resolution.
Sellars also claims that the console will feature some exclusive titles that won’t be available on the standard Switch and will be able to support streaming services such as Twitch. If true this would be quite a big move for Nintendo, however Sellars’ leaks haven’t always been the most accurate. As always, it’s important to take leaks with a grain of salt until substantial evidence can provided by developers to back up any claim.
Seeing as how Nintendo prefers to launch during the holiday season, it seems a bit odd that the leak claims that it would be arriving early. If Nintendo was to release a title with 4k as early as the Spring season, they would have surely made an announcement about it by this point as well. Lastly, Nintendo has had a fairly firm stance against streaming services in the past, it’s hard to imagine they’d join the streaming bandwagon any time soon if at all.
