Absolver Trailer

Everybody loves some good kung-fu action. Absolver is a game being developed by French indie company Sloclap that aims to bring in just that. It’s an ambitious title with a very unique combat system. The biggest part of the skills and upgrading within the game relies on the players fighting style which will develop and grow over the course of play. A new Absolver trailer has surfaced which shows off the combat in depth as well as a new release date later this year.

Players become what are called Prospects, journeymen fighters training to one day become Absolvers, the best of the best who keep the peace within the fallen city of Raslan. This new Absolver trailer shows off an in-depth look at what exactly players can expect from the combat system. Initially Prospects can choose between three different starting styles each with their own special abilities.

  • Kahlt Method- Strong and resistant, Prospects of this style absorb hits without being stunned or knocked back and can regain health for every successful counterattack
  • Forsaken- Balanced and powerful, Prospects of this style can parry enemy attacks and briefly stun opponents
  • Windfall- With greater dexterity and will, Prospects of this style avoid enemy attacks leaving opponents open to powerful counter attacks

The starting styles are not the only ones available for players to use though. During their travels, Prospects will be able to unlock new moves and styles each of which will be able to be used in their combat deck, or the list of attacks players can use when fighting. Divided between 4 different stances based on the where the player is in relation to an enemy, the attacks are able to be fully customized within the combat deck allowing players to become unpredictable in their fights.

Styles can be discovered both by fighting AI and players alike. Prospects can also join forces with a Mentor, which gives them experience towards learning new styles as well. It’s a unique concept to be sure, the game has a gorgeous art style, and the combat looks fluid and easy to get used to. Absolver will be available August 29th, 2017 for PC and PlayStation 4.
