Dynasty Warriors 9 Confirmed for the PlayStation 4, Open-World Setting + New Screenshots

The Dynasty Warriors franchise is a long-standing series from Koei Tecmo that has stood the test of time so far with a loyal fanbase, and familiar hack-and-slash styles. Fans of Dynasty Warriors were excited to hear that a new title was on the way, and became intrigued with the latest installment was hailed as a “rebirth” of the franchise. It wouldn’t be a rebirth without some changes, and there are plenty to go around.

One of the most notable changes in the new title is the restructuring of the overall gameplay. Dynasty Warriors 9 will mark the first title in the entire history of the games to be set in an open-world setting. Fast travel will be available in case your character gets burnt out on all of that horseback riding. Capture castles, unlock fast travel points, and strategic conquering are just a few of the perks to this new open-world setting as the dynamics of the play-styles offered will be bigger than ever.

Instead of the traditional stage-by-stage, the gameplay progression of Dynasty Warriors 9 will be revealed throughout various points on the map, all depending on which time period is reflected at the time. Just like any other open-world game, the main missions will be marked by progression, while smaller missions will be available on the side as a means to level up and to make that main narrative easier to tackled via leveling. According to Gematsu, the developers behind this title, Omega Force, has notated that they want to provide the ability for players to alternate between generals, though nothing is set in stone at this time.

Another feature that veterans of the series may be excited to hear, is that long range attacks using a bow and arrows is set to return with 9, perfect for those that plan on capturing those castles in a more rogue-like manner. The weather will also change real-time, offering a more immersive experience for the story’s narrative. Want to go super stealth? Equip that bow, flank around the back, and use the cover of night or a good storm to limit the enemy’s field of vision. The perfect onslaught.

At the time this article was written, according to sources Dynasty Warriors 9 is sitting at 40% completion with no set release date at this time. Are you excited to see these changes in action?
