More Activision Remasters Confirmed For This Year
As the new year continues to show a promising future for the video game industry, Activision Blizzard holds its position towards the top of the gaming world. With a wide library of franchises spanning many genres, Activision has several types of games being planned. One type of game Activision has had success with in recent years has been remastered versions of classic games. These have included collections of the first Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games. Now, Activision Blizzard has expressed its intent to publish more Activision remasters in the future.
The Motley Fool shared a transcript of the recent Activision Blizzard earnings call for investors. In the announcement, the company was revealed to have had a successful year in 2020, with revenues increasing 25% year over year. Surely this is in some part due to the COVID-19 pandemic seeing increased demand for at-home entertainment, but this result is also in some part due to releasing more Activision remasters like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remastered. In regards to the future output of remasters, CFO Dennis Durkin had this to say:
And then we have a few other things up our sleeve in terms of remastered content that will unveil in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year”
Durkin does not say what franchises specifically will be on this list of more Activision remasters coming in 2021, but previous rumors have indicated a Diablo II remake is in the works at Activision developer Vicarious Visions. This studio was also behind the Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk remasters, so they are expected to be attached to more remasters in the future. Whatever games end up getting remastered, based on the quality of these previous projects, fans can surely expect some N. Sanely good times.
