Mass Effect Legendary Edition: ME3 Multiplayer Could Eventually Return

Mass Effect Legendary Edition ME3 Multiplayer

The space-exploring adventures of Commander Shepard are now available for modern platforms with the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the collection remastering everything from visuals, performance, and gameplay to offer an ultimate vision of the trilogy. While the launch hopes to be everything fans could want, a notable exclusion nonetheless exists in the current lack of online multiplayer, which was previously established as an integral and fan-favorite part of the original Mass Effect 3.

Though ME3 multiplayer unfortunately sits out of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, it appears it’s possible this decision could be reversed sometime in the future. Game director Mac Walters suggested as much in a recent interview with CNET, revealing that he would “never say no” to bringing back multiplayer. “We want to see what kind of reception the Legendary Edition gets and what the demand for the multiplayer is,” Walters explained. “And then we’ll ask ourselves if we have the resources and time to bring it up to the quality level we and fans want.”

When Mass Effect 3 originally released, multiplayer was packaged as an important part of the overall game, with players actively taking part in multiplayer to boost a “Galactic Readiness” rating and contributing to the overall ending of the trilogy. As the mode offered the means to play as numerous races and classes not available in the main game, the absence of multiplayer in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is sure to be a bummer for many fans. Even so, it’s still nice the feature isn’t being completely left off the table for the future.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility.

What do you think?
