Marvel’s Avengers Sony-Exclusive Spider-Man DLC “Still On Track”

Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man DLC

Marvel’s Avengers boasts a pretty nice line-up of core heroes at the moment, but the addition of Black Panther and an accompanying story DLC aims to refresh the multiplayer brawler in a substantial way. Although the coming content signifies the start of King T’Challa’s reign, it also marks the end of the game’s previously-announced roadmap, leaving future DLC unclear for the time being. However, it now appears we can at least expect Spider-Man to finally show up in the foreseeable future.

Hope for the web-slinger’s arrival was extended by Crystal Dynamics’ senior designer Scott Walters, who confirmed Spider-Man is “still on track” to release in a recent exchange with Screen Rant. According to the developer, the long-announced DLC is still set to release sometime in 2021 as an exclusive for PlayStation-branded consoles. “We’ve always scheduled and looked to bring Spider-Man out in 2021 for PlayStation owners,” Walters said. “That is still on track, so we’ll have more announcements later on this year.”

Spider-Man Announced For Marvel's Avengers As PlayStation Exclusive

Last year, Marvel’s Avengers confirmed Spider-Man would join the superhero team-up as an exclusive DLC character for PlayStation. As one might expect, the decision was met by the collective groan of many non-Sony users, prompting Square Enix to promise no future characters would be locked to a specific platform. Though little is currently known about the thwip-happy DLC, devs have confirmed a wholly original take on the Marvel Comics hero with “certain parallels” to established variants like Miles Morales.

Though the launch window for Spider-Man hasn’t yet narrowed, it’s nonetheless assuring for devs to re-confirm the character’s release. While fans continue to wait for the wall-crawler, Marvel’s Avengers’ next DLC hopes to bring a wealth of worthwhile content to the title, including a playable Black Panther, an all-new Wakanda-set storyline, as well as a set of all-new enemy types. The game has also added to a growing list of MCU-inspired skins such as Iron Man’s Bleeding Edge armor and Black Widow’s iconic white costume from her recent movie.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now for PC, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The War for Wakanda DLC releases on August 17th.
