Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action Series Cast Revealed

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action Series Cast Revealed

Netflix announced its reimagined live-action take on Avatar: The Last Airbender back in 2019, inspiring the legion of fans that were burned by M. Night Shyamalan’s big screen take on the franchise to hope once more for an authentic, ideally ‘decent’ adaptation of the beloved series. Almost exactly two years later and Netflix has announced a chunk of the cast for its live-action adaptation, revealing who has been cast as Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko.

Netflix took to social media to reveal some of the cast list for its upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series. The streaming company revealed that Gordon Cormier (The Stand) has been cast as Aang, Kiawentiio (Rutherford Falls) as Katara, Ian Ousley (Physical) as Sokka, and Dallas Liu (Shang-Chi) as Zuko. Here’s the original reveal tweet:

In a separate tweet, Netflix shared some of showrunner and writer Albert Kim’s thoughts on the upcoming series. “We’ll be expanding and growing the world, and there will be surprises for existing fans and those new to the tale,” Kim said. “But throughout this process, our byword has been “authenticity.” To the story. To the characters. To the cultural influences. Authenticity is what keeps us going, both in front of the camera and behind it…”

Speaking of authenticity, Netflix started out doing right by series fans by having original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzzko on board from the project. Unfortunately that didn’t last, as both creators withdrew from the live-action series last year, citing that “things did not go as we had hope.” How things proceed from here remains to be seen, though most will agree that it likely won’t be any worse than the live-action movie that fans wish had never seen the light of day.
