Mario Voice Actor Achieves World Record For Most Roles As Same Character (VIDEO)

Mario Voice Actor

The world of animated voice over work is known for having actors ubiquitously attached to specific characters. Iconic character roles tied to specific actors, such as Tom Kenny as Spongebob Squarepants or Kevin Conroy, have made them legends in their field. In the particular sector of video game voice acting, no singular figure is as instantly recognizable as Charles Martinet’s portrayal of Super Mario.

Martinet has been portraying the famous Italian plumber for Nintendo since 1990, and he has become a well-known figure in video game culture in his own right. Now, the Mario voice actor has reached a new level of immortality by beating the world record for most video game appearances as the same character.

Charles Martinet recently released a post sharing the news on his Instagram account. Guinness World Records has officially recognized Martinet as the world record holder for the most credited video game cast roles as the same character. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s recent release, this marked the 100th appearance of Martinet as Mario in a video game.

To celebrate this achievement, Guinness officials invited Martinet onto their gamer’s podcast, to discuss his storied career and present him with a special physical award. Granted, it does not seem that Guinness has been tracking the rankings of video game voice actors extensively before this, and likely only granted Martinet the award upon his 100th credit. Still, this is an impressive achievement and was wholly worthy of recognition. Hopefully, unlike Bowser’s various castles in Super Mario World, this record is not broken any time soon.
