Magic: The Gathering Teases New Ikoria: Lair Of Behemoths Expansion

Magic: The Gathering has quite an exciting array of new arrivals on the horizon, with the stunningly-revealed likes of Theros Beyond Death setting up for a grand debut in just a few days’ time. All the while, Wizards of the Coast is already in the works with another big expansion for the popular card experience by the name of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths. While little about the upcoming set has been formally revealed as of yet, a new piece of artwork teases just what Ikoria may have to offer.

Posted over Reddit, a new promotional image of the upcoming set has been revealed, depicting a legion of massive beasts, with one particularly ferocious one looming large over the rest. Interestingly, attentive Redditors also pointed out what appears to be Planeswalker character Vivien Reid, the huntswoman shown wielding her traditional Arkbow in battle-ready fashion.

While this new image is out in the open, details are still scarce regarding its placement in Magic: The Gathering. However, with such a gargantuan on display, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is sure to draw comparisons to Capcom’s Monster Hunter World–a description that may not be that far-fetched based on previous teases. Initially announced last September, MTG head designer Mark Rosewater told of a “monster world” with the means “play with and make your own monsters.” While not going into specifics, Ikoria was additionally said to have “one of the craziest mechanics we’ve made in quite a while.”

Ikoria: Lair Of Behemoths releases for Magic: The Gathering on April 24th, with a pre-release period set from April 17th to April 19th.
