Machinima Founder Hugh Hancock Has Passed Away

Machinima founder and VR developer, Hugh Hancock, has passed away. Known for his work as an online filmmaker, virtual reality developer, and establishing a well-known company, it’s disheartening to see another great mind move on. Established in 2000 as Machinima from the humble beginnings of Strange Company alongside other founders of the aforementioned, Hancock left the company to new hands in 2006. Even so, he continued his work as a creator to focus on personal projects.

His last major project was titled Dead Knight Love Story, a World of Warcraft fan film that took 5 years of hard work and production. In recent years, virtual reality took his attention with vigor. Switching from animated movie creations to virtual reality development, his energy was then focused on Left-Hand Path, a Dark Souls-inspired horror RPG that release this past November. Safe to say, it was a hit with critics and fans.

The untimely passing of Machinima founder, Hugh Hancock, left many friends and loved ones with heavy hearts of grief. Many revealed their shock on Twitter and other social media outlets to honor his life and remember him – a good friend, a great mind, and the legacy he left behind.

It’s not easy coming to terms with the passing of a friend, and it becomes even harder when you’re close to them and remember all those memories attached to their life. It’s with heavy hearts here at DFTG that we express our condolences to his friends, family, and other loved ones in this time of grief. Our hearts go out to you.
