WATCH: New Linksys Gaming Router Will Speed Up Your Xbox One

Linksys Gaming Router

Have you ever been in the middle of an Overwatch match when all of a sudden your connection slows down to the point that there is too much lag to play, because a sibling or a roommate is downloading something else on the same router? Linksys feels your pain, and as such, the company has unveiled its all new WRT32X Gaming Router to help prevent such things from happening. The new Linksys gaming router is designed to prioritize your Xbox One, certain types of PCs, and a few other devices by using its “Killer Prioritization Engine” to reduce ping times by up to 77 percent. Check out the reveal video below to see the new Linksys gaming router in action:

It should be noted that there are ways to set up priorities on many routers currently available on the market, though not without some setup to it first. The WRT32X simply checks the connected devices to gauge compatibility with its Killer Networking hardware. It then uses that knowledge in order to “prioritize important gaming and video networking traffic above other devices in the home.” If, for example, that pesky sibling is downloading a gig of adorable cat videos, the router will lower the available bandwidth to said sibling so that you may frag your enemies with no lag. Additionally, PCs hooked up to the router can also choose to prioritize things such as streaming video. “The WRT32X will [then] treat those packets like gold and ensure nothing in the home slows down those streaming video networking packets,” according to Linksys.

For those that already have an WRT32X, we have some good news. Linksys plans on adding the Killer Prioritization features to existing WRT32X routers in a software update arriving this spring, so those not looking to pony up for another, slightly shinier router need only wait a few months instead. The WRT32X retails for $300, and will be available for purchase September 2018. Like the original version of the WRT32X, it features 802.11ac Wi-Fi, four Ethernet ports, a USB 3.0 port, and four dual band adjustable antennas.
