Latest Overwatch Patch Notes Detail Changes for McCree, Reaper, and More
Overwatch continues to stay strong with new content and updates. The latest Overwatch patch notes for June 20th detail some interesting changes to the game’s playable characters among various bug fixes and UI updates. The biggest and most exciting part of Blizzard’s FPS update may the Lunar Colony map, which is officially live, however the changes made to McCree, Reaper, and Roadhog will help all three characters survive a little longer and make players who main as those characters a little happier.
McCree’s ultimate ability used to take considerable time to build up, making it easy for many players to kill him before he can use it. The patch increases the speed of the initial lock on and charge more damage in the first second. This will allow the ability to be more effective in that small window before death without making any major buffs to the ultimate.
McCree’s ultimate can deal a lot of damage if it has a lot of time to build up, but it was often too difficult to get even a small amount of damage out before being stopped or killed. These changes make it more flexible and powerful.
The life orbs dropped from Reaper kills are no more, instead giving the character a passive lifesteal which heals him of 20% of all damage dealt to enemy heroes. The developers comments on the change reveal that the old passive ability was only truly useful if you could kill a bunch of enemies in a row. With the new passive, Reaper will get the benefit of self-healing immediately.
Roadhog gets two updates this time around with a 20% decrease to his head hitbox, which will help his survivability. Unfortunately for Roadhog mains, the hook-shot combo has been nerfed once again. The Overwatch patch notes show that his shotgun loses 33% of it’s damage while gaining an increase of 30% in fire speed as well as gaining an additional shot bringing the total to five shots. Theoretically this allows Roadhog to maintain his overall DPS while lowering his initial burst, which could kill.
Roadhog’s head was abnormally large compared to similarly-sized characters, so we’re reducing its size to increase his survivability. The Scrap Gun changes reduce the power of his hook combo and alternate fire burst damage potential while still keeping his DPS roughly the same.
Also released in the latest patch are the Oni Genji and Officer D.Va skins, previously only available from the Heroes of the Storm Nexus Challenge, now available in the classic loot boxes for all players to discover. Now you can “GG” while looking like you’re giving somebody a parking ticket. Exciting.
