John Wick Sifu Mod Shows Keanu Reeves Still Knows Kung Fu (VIDEO)
As video games have progressed technologically, they have been able to better emulate the visual styles and qualities of cinema. Such has been the case most recently with the game Sifu, which seeks to make the player feel like they are the protagonist of a classic martial arts action film. One of the most popular new martial arts action films in recent years has been the John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves. Some might even argue that the John Wick films themselves have been influenced by video games. Now, the two have been merged with a new John Wick Sifu mod.
Modding group The Beyonders has made their John Wick Sifu mod available through their official Patreon page. The mod replaces the player character’s martial artist protagonist with that of Keanu Reeves as John Wick. Reeves has been well known for his affinity for martial arts and wanting to honor their portrayal on-screen, which Sifu seems to desire as well. One of the first iconic action sequences in the John Wick series happened in the first film, where John Wick infiltrates a Russian nightclub.
Fittingly, Sifu also features a level early on that takes place in a nightclub as well, with similar neon-lighting accentuating the frames. As such, it has inspired YouTubers like Dan Allen Gaming to recreate the action scene from the first John Wick film. While Sifu does not allow for the player to utilize guns like John Wick heavily does in scenes like the nightclub scene, Dan Allen did make a noble attempt to faithfully recreate the sequence. Sifu’s fighting systems do fit quite nicely with Wick’s fast-paced, but calculated martial arts strategies. Hopefully this could one day inspire a full-fledged, martial art-heavy John Wick game. For now, fans can enjoy being reminded that Keanu Reeves still knows kung fu.
