Fortnite Teases Sword "Fit For A King" Coming Soon

The map-altering blizzard known as Season 7 has recently swept across Fortnite and brought with it a number of game-changing additions. In time for the season of giving, the gift of flight is now available with the addition of planes and a new means of weapon and vehicle skins called Wraps has been introduced. All was initially revealed in Season 7’s first trailer, but one particularly teased item from the footage has yet to appear in the game: swords.

As many probably noticed in the reveal, the beard-sporting Sergeant Winter wields a pretty spiffy sword in his assault on the Fortnite map, the merry military man lunging his blade into the air as planes fly overhead. Many assumed the latest v7.0 update would introduce a melee mechanic of this caliber. While swords turned out to be excluded from the frozen fun, Epic Games has now teased that players may actually have the edge sooner rather than later. Check it out below.

Unsheathing the ability to use swords could be an interesting development to Fortnite, as the battle royale proceedings have normally operated under a traditionally first-person shooter genre. A form of close-quarters dueling could be a welcome way to mix up combat, but exactly how it may happen currently remains to be seen. Perhaps they may be introduced as a limited-time item like the Infinity Gauntlet earlier this year. Only time will tell.

In the meantime, Fortnite has recently revealed a number of new modes to keep players busy. The Block is set to give especially creative players a showcase, the Team Rumble LTM has implemented a new style of deathmatch, and there’s also the Wild West mode for those looking for challenging spin on the usual proceedings. Fortnite is out now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

What do you think? Are you excited to clash blades in Fortnite, or are you worried swords might become overpowered? Is Fortnite actually teasing the arrival of Stormbreaker from Avengers: Infinity War?
