Fortnite Devs Discuss Integrating Save The World And Battle Royale Modes
It is hard to deny the impact Fortnite has had on the gaming community, especially after Fortnite devs Epic Games made the wise decision to implement a Battle Royale mode made popular by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds last year. The game was originally meant so simply be a survival action game through its Save the World mode, though the massive popularity behind the battle royale concept made Epic Games change its course with the game.
Unfortunately not all aspects of Save the World could be carried over into its Battle Royale mode, so the Fortnite developer had its work cut out for it. In a recent interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (May issue), Epic stated that each different Save the World class came with many different characteristics, such as hit boxes. “If we were to put those classes into Battle Royale, everyone would gravitate towards the one with the smallest hit box.”
While the two modes aren’t necessarily compatible, Epic Games does have plans in the future that include getting the classes into the Battle Royale mode. The potential future integration would be an attempt at making the two modes feel less disparate, one that should please those that still have a hard time deciding which mode to play. “We’ve talked about how things could more closely integrate,” Epic said. “It’s a tough problem to solve, because they’re different paces of game. Battle Royale is a 15-20 minute digestible experience, while Save the World is an RPG with persistent elements. It’s not something that’s easy to map from one to the other. Certainly, we [will have] problems in trying to get there.”
Thankfully, Epic Games seems to have plenty of time to get the ball rolling on making the two modes gel together a bit better. Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world right now, and the hunger for all things battle royale doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon.
Fortnite is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
So, thoughts on the possible integration of classes in Save the World mode? What class would you play as, assuming they fix the hit box issue?
