Fortnite Officially Announces China Launch With $15 Million Backing From Tencent

Fortnite New Map

Remember that big teaser last week that had the Fortnite community divided? The one about China that had one half of the player base saying it was a location announcement, and the other half hoping for a new map. We’ll the gut instincts were right regarding a location announcement, because the team over at Tencent has just announced that Epic Games’ smash online title is officially making the jump.

During a recent presentation, the team over at Tencent revealed that the game would be coming over to their neck of the woods in addition to announcing a $15 million dollar investment into this move. The millions revealed will be going towards promotion of the Fortnite esports vertical in hopes of making this record breaking game even more powerful.

For those players in China that had already been playing the game due to a few workaround tricks, they will be able to transfer their account into into the new server including stats and items.

This is something that players have been rumbling about for awhile now and we’ve got a theory about why Epic Games went about the teaser route like they did. Many aren’t actually happy about the game’s arrival to this new location, mostly because of one ugly side to online gaming: cheating. Since Fortnite is cross-platform and PC is known for its breeding ground for hackers and cheaters, many are worried about what this new accessibility will mean for fair play. Since millions of the cheaters that made up PUBG’s infection were rooted in China, it is definitely a valid reason for concern. That being said, it’s a game that many are enjoying and it only makes sense to extend that reach.
