Knuckles Glides Through the Flying Battery Zone in New Sonic Mania Gameplay (VIDEO)
This year’s 25th anniversary celebration of gaming icon Sonic the Hedgehog has promised to bring the blue streak into prominence once again with the upcoming release of an all-new game, as well as the 16-bit throwback known as Sonic Mania. Fans old enough to remember Sonic’s heyday can surely appreciate the latter title’s clear aim to recapture the nostalgiarific 2D graphics and gameplay first seen on the Sega Genesis. Sonic & Knuckles’ classic Flying Battery Zone level is one of the retro stages making its way to Mania, which was recently showcased in a short gameplay video that can be viewed below.
The new footage shows off an updated version of the Flying Battery Zone, with Knuckles, the spiky-handed rival to Sonic, is seen performing his unique climbing and gliding abilities to traverse Dr. Eggman’s giant airship in style. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Sonic Mania was being pushed back from its original spring release date due to unknown reasons. Publisher Sega has maintained a 2017 launch is still very much in the cards but we’ll just have to wait and see when Sonic Mania eventually comes out for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
