Final Fantasy VII Remake For PS Plus Won’t Be Upgradeable To The PS5 Version
It’s been a few days now since the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the PS5 version of the game that was revealed during Sony’s latest State of Play. No new info has surfaced since then, though the existing information is being clarified and confirmed thanks to the title’s official website. One such bit of information is that, while the Final Fantasy VII Remake can be obtained for ‘free’ next month through PlayStation Plus, that particular version of the game will not be eligible for the free upgrade to the PS5 version.
For those that have yet to read up on Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the PS5 version of the game will cost $70 to purchase and will include the new segment featuring Yuffie. Those that own the PS4 version of the game can upgrade to the PS5 version for free, though they will need to pay about $20 to purchase the Yuffie content separately. Since it was recently revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the titles available through PlayStation Plus next month some folks considered leveraging the free game to upgrade to the PS5 version, but this isn’t being allowed by Sony or Square Enix. It comes to little surprise that Yuffie is after our hearts, materia, and of course our wallets as well.

PSPlusに加入し、フリープレイとして入手したPS4版「FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE」は、PS5版にアップグレードすることはできません…え?!フリプ来るの?https://t.co/kaKJ5YuwLF pic.twitter.com/G3p4ODxrBC— aibo (@aibo_ac7) February 26, 2021
This news comes by way of the Japanese PlayStation Store listing for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. According to Twitter user aibo, Some of the fine print surrounding information on Yuffie’s episode roughly translates to say that “The PlayStation 4 version ‘FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE’ obtained as a free play by subscribing to PlayStation Plus cannot be upgraded to the PlayStation 5 version.” It should be noted that this info is from the Japanese version of the website, so there is still some possibility that it’ll be allowed in other territories. Still, this is Square Enix and Sony we’re talking about, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade releases for the PS5 on June 10th, 2021.
