Dragon Age 4 Game Awards Announcement On The Way, But The Game's Not Dropping Anytime Soon

Just last week, the folks over at BioWare dropped a bombshell of a teaser by stating that fans of the Dragon Age series should look forward to new information in the coming month. With the only large publicized video game venue being The Game Awards 2018, we surmised that Dragon Age 4 may be getting its big reveal at some point during the show. Now, it appears that we were right, though the game is reportedly still a few years away.

The news comes by way of a report from VentureBeat, which stated that Dragon Age 4 will in fact be revealed during this year’s Game Awards show, which airs later this week. Unfortunately, the report also carried with it the reveal that the BioWare game won’t be hitting store shelves for at least another three years. “Dragon Age 4 — or whatever name it’ll carry — is at least three years away, according to sources familiar with the studio,” VentureBeat reporter Jeffrey Grubb said.

That timeline could change, but that is the current expectation at EA. BioWare and EA have not even settled on a name for the new Dragon Age — although that is something they could decide in preparation for a reveal at The Game Awards.”

With Anthem just a few short months away, the timing certainly seems right for the big reveal of Dragon Age 4, especially with the Mass Effect series taking a bit of a breather ever since Mass Effect: Andromeda. That said, BioWare boss Casey Hudson recently revealed that the recent enhancements made for Andromeda on the Xbox One is “just a small part of the plans we’re making for Mass Effect going forward,” so the next few years could be very, very busy for the BioWare team. For now, we can only hope that everything being teased will be worth the wait.

Anthem launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 22, 2019.
