DOOM Eternal 6.66 Update Adds Horde Mode, Battlemode Changes (VIDEO)

DOOM Eternal

The latest entry in the DOOM franchise, DOOM Eternal appears to be ending the tale of the DOOM Slayer with The Old Gods: Part 1 and 2. Whether or not the developers decide to continue the story with a new chapter in the saga of the iconic hero or not remains to be seen, though, they are still working hard to bring fans a wonderful experience within the title and making sure gameplay is smooth and bugs are at a minimum. Even over a year after release, the team at id Software is adding new content in the upcoming 6.66 Update.

This past QuakeCon offered a discussion around the state of the game, featuring the senior community director at Bethesda Softworks Joshua Boyle and executive producer at id Software Marty Stratton, and DOOM Eternal game director Hugo Martin. As said during the panel, Update 6.66 will bring about the previously announced Horde mode for single-player, sending players to face off against a series of waves consisting of tougher and tougher enemies as time goes on.

The demonic new update will also give fans a rework of the current multiplayer-focused Battlemode, specifically aiming to improve matchmaking, implement streak-based match-ups, and address lobby dodging, to hopefully keep players around and increase the longevity of the mode. In addition, the developers mentioned a new arena called Stronghold will be introduced in addition to the arrival of two new Master levels, World Spear and Mars Core, which will be compatible with all supported modes and difficulties, including Nightmare.

There was no mention as to when the 6.66 Update will drop for DOOM Eternal but when it does, the new content is sure to be a treat. The game is currently available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch. Will you be challenging the new content coming within Update 6.66?
