81-Year-Old Destiny 2 Player Goes Viral After Sharing Heartwarming Raid Story

Sherpa raiding can be a sensitive subject, depending on which MMO game is the topic of conversation. In essence, it is the act of a well-established, elite raid group carrying a player or two through a raid that they would likely not get through on their own. Often-times, said raid groups charge for their services, or “content clears,” which in a way feeds the pay-to-win mentality that we see permeating through certain areas in gaming culture. Thankfully, this Destiny 2 story is not one of these times, and is instead a testament to humanity, camaraderie, and just straight up genuine friendship.

With the upcoming Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion quickly approaching, 81-year-old player Fibby “FIBBOB” Kinney was looking to close out year 1 with a bang by completing the game’s notorious Leviathan raid. That said, raids are by no means solo friendly, so he knew that he was going to need some help. As such, Fib reached out to the Destiny 2 Facebook group and asked for assistance, and a few members of the community delivered in glorious fashion.

“I don’t ever do Sherpa raids in D2, but I just had to for this fellow,” one of the players revealed on Reddit. “It was an absolute delight helping him. We later did Eater of Worlds and helped Fib get his Legend of Acrius as well. We also plan on doing Spire of Stars very soon.”

The above comment came from a member of “The G Team” (Guardians Elite), the group that helped Fib clear the raid. And while that in itself is a nice story, Fib went the extra mile after having a wonderful time with the group by writing an impressive, touching short story about what transpired before and during the raid. The story is large enough that I won’t put it in its entirely here, but a small part of it can be seen below:

“I was at the Tower sitting under the “Tree of Wonders” wondering how my life as a guardian was going. I had done a lot, except I had not done the “Raid” the big one where only the best guardians had a chance at taking down this “Golden Emperor” from hell. Suddenly some spaceships landed and out stepped a crew of elite guardians called, “The G Team” (Guardians Elite), they held this title because they were perfect in battle. They were the best of the elite and had a reputation for “Flawless” I looked at them in awe.

The leader, whose tag read, PXG_S3 looked at me sitting under the tree…he motioned his team to join him. They approached me. The leader said, ‘We lost our wingman on the way in. We are going to the Raid, and we need one more to join us. Are you In? I was flabbergasted! Yea!!! Is all I could say. I noticed one of the ‘G Team’ was a female. Her name tag read, ‘Angelbabyluv’ . I said, for someone so beautiful to be an elite, Wow. She just smiled and said, ‘When we get there just follow me and do what I say. I said, ‘I’m there!’ Then SuprEvilPoptarts, UNOSEKOJ, and Niguh-soft all grinned at this new guardian who looked like he had seen a lot of years on this embattled earth. ‘Let’s go guardian, we have a fight to fulfill and you are going to see some action like you have never seem before! They all Laughed, we were ready to pile into our spaceships and take off for the Big Fight… Calus would Die tonight!”

The rest of the Destiny 2 Leviathan raid story can be seen here, though that wasn’t the end of Fib’s adventures with PXG_S3 and friends. After having such a good time with Fib, the group – along with another impressive player, Drakonans – teamed up with Fib to help him clear the Whisper of the Worm quest in order to acquire an exotic sniper rifle by the same name. Fib once again documented his travels, for the enjoyment of others within the Destiny 2 community.

“I walked around the Tower just looking at guardians who carried this fantastic “Exotic” sniper rifle on their back. It is a badge, not only of courage, but also of achievement. How hard it is to get this masterpiece of firepower ?How many jumps must be made to cross the abyss ? The incredible amount of enemies that must be slain to reach the point where the boss appears seems, endless. It is an almost impossible task, at least I thought so, until PXG_S3 and Drakonans appeared.”

“I looked closely at these two magnificent guardians. I realized that they had gone beyond the rank of mere guardians; they had become, “The Prince of Light” ! Both PXG and Drak were archangels in bodily form. Master guardians who had taken me under their wings and gave me the power to have and to hold, for better or for worse, and until death do us part—my very own, “Whisper of the Worm!

When I said these words, the gun began to glow and shimmer in my hands. Drak, looked down at me and said, “I went back and got this for you”…the catalyst perk flew from his fingers and nestled in the body of the gun. He smiled and said, “Go forth guardian and be all that you can be!” With that said, both PXG and Drak disappeared into the mist. How lucky was I to have reached out and found these angels who helped me reach a cherished goal.”
