Bungie Opens Up About the Struggles of Destiny, Says Destiny 2 Loadouts Make the Game “Tougher”

Bungie’s sequel to the popular shooter franchise has been gaining momentum as the games early fall release date inches closer. As is always the case, information comes in a slow trickle to the big reveal. In a recent interview, game director Luke Smith noted that players can expect a more challenging game because of the Destiny 2 loadouts.

According to Smith, players will need to put more thought into their weaponry selections. This would come into play especially as player’s reach the culmination of the game’s progress. Here is what he had to say about how Destiny 2 loadouts will play a part in making activities and missions more difficult:

If you think of your weapons and items as a golf bag, we want you to look into your golf bag before you start an activity and go, ‘Oh, what should we bring to this?’ For some of those activities, you’re going to be loadout-locked once you start which means you can’t change. The difficulty, certainly at the pinnacle level of the game, we tried to make a much tougher game.”

Besides talk of tougher Destiny 2play, Smith also discussed the struggles of directing the first game. According to the director, it could be difficult at times to enjoy. His reasoning on this was that players didn’t really know what mattered about their actions, a problem he said was due to the game not showing them.

Why am I doing this? Does it matter? Is it going somewhere? We didn’t do a good job answering those questions holistically. You want to feel like the game you’re playing has a sense of progression.”

Certainly, a lot of fans can relate to that statement and even the Publishing CEO of Activision, Eric Hirshberg, felt that the developer wasn’t meeting fan expectations with new content. Ultimately, fans will get to decide for themselves if they’ve made a tougher Destiny 2 on September 9th. In the meantime, there is always the open beta to celebrate.
