Major Overwatch Update Will Require Players To Reinstall Game

Blizzard has big plans for Overwatch with the reveal of their latest hero Ashe and the confirmation of 6 more in the future. It’s obvious big things are coming for the popular FPS. Of course, this means sizeable updates are on the way to give players time to contemplate life as they wait for those updates to complete. In fact, their latest will require to completely reinstall the game.

On their Overwatch forum, Blizzard announced the news of major changes coming soon. In an attempt to prepare players for the patch, the post details what to expect when it comes out. While they don’t have a date or time of release, they did have this to say:

The next major patch will have some pretty fundamental changes to the game client. The number of back-end changes we’re putting in is substantial enough that we can’t just patch over the current content efficiently. As a result, when the next patch comes out, the client will fully reinstall itself to handle these changes. We know that this isn’t ideal for people on metered connections, so hopefully this announcement helps you prepare for this coming update.”

This marks the first time Overwatch has launched such a massive patch. Since its launch in 2016, Blizzard has done an outstanding job of keeping the title exciting. With the team unloading teasers for tons of new content by way of PvE, it’s understandable that they may need such a major update. Without launching a full sequel the game would likely never see all of the adjustments the developers want to roll out.

With Blizzard having stated that they aren’t planning on a sequel at this time, it makes sense that they might like to freshen up the game and keep it fresh for fans. If there is one thing Overwatch has been good at, it is keeping things interesting and engaging. While little else is known about the update, with Blizzard’s devotion it’s bound to be spectacular!
