Inspired by the Gothic horror platforming franchise, Netflix’s Castlevania series started out as a hit back in 2017 with a dark tale of vengeance and the hellish retribution of Dracula himself. As time has gone on the series has managed to keep its hold on the show’s ever-growing legion of fans, though it’s now been revealed that the upcoming season 4 will be its last. On the bright side, it appears as though the end of the current tale in the Castlevania universe may herald the start of a new one.

A recent tweet from Netflix reveals that the final season of the Castlevania series will be airing next month on May 13. The show was written and directed by author and comic book writer Warren Ellis, who faced allegations of sexual misconduct last year after having already completed writing the script for Castlevania season 4. Ellis is no longer part of the Castlevania project and, according to a recent report from Deadline, has not been a part of discussions concerning a potential spin-off show within the gothic horror universe. According to said report, the writer heard that Netflix is “eyeing a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with an entirely new cast of characters.”

Netflix’s Castlevania series follows Trevor Belmont, the last surviving member of his clan of vampire hunters as he fights back against the dark forces of Dracula and his vampiric war council as they plague the lands of Eastern Europe. During the events of the series he befriends the nomadic Speaker Sypha Belnades and Alucard, the son of Dracula. They’ll be in for a wild ride when they head back to where it all began and fight back against the horrors that await them.
