Captain Marvel Film to be Set in the 1990’s – Shapeshifting Villains Announced

Captain Marvel Film

The Captain Marvel film has been in a sort of MCU limbo for what feels like forever. Not due to arrive until 2019, it seems like it has been ages since Brie Larson(Room, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) was announced as the movie’s titular character. Okay, it has only been a year since then, but some of us are itching to see the project come to fruition. Thankfully, Marvel didn’t show up empty handed to this year’s SDCC.

During their panel, Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige disclosed that the impending Captain Marvel film will take place in the 1990’s. It was also revealed that the once fighter pilot will be using her superpowers to fend off the movie’s villains – the Skrulls. These deceitful bastards possess the ability to shapeshift, which can always be problematic. Of course, fans on Twitter were quick to point out a potential future plot point: One of the major characters we’ve come to love over the past 10 years is actually a Skrull, aren’t they? Here is a bit of concept art(courtesy of @JimPhan91) that was also shown during the panel, one of which depicts our hero kicking some major ass while the other shows off the villains:

Due to the Captain Marvel film being set in the 90’s, a few things are certain: The only MCU movie to take place before it will have been Captain America: The First Avenger, Nick Fury won’t be wearing an eye-patch as he has both of his eyes at this point in time, and the soundtrack is sure to be incredible. Marvel is already using Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” in the trailers for The Defenders, so we can only hope the upcoming Captain Marvel film follows suit. Captain Marvel is set to fly into theaters on March 8, 2019.

What say you, moviegoers? Are you pleased with the fact that the movie will be set in the 1990’s? How are they going to work that into a modern day Avengers timeline?
