Capcom Showcase Announced Amid Dragon’s Dogma 2 Speculation
Geoff Keighley’s not-E3 celebration Summer Game Fest will soon take the stage and this week is expected to be quite the hype-spurrer (but not too spurring) for fans of the gaming medium. Leading up to and following the showcase are even more game presentations with everyone from Xbox, Devolver, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Xbox again doling out mass handfuls of announcements. Now, it looks like we can expect Capcom to also roll out the trailer wagon with the premiere of an official Capcom Showcase.
The Resident Evil developer announced its big plans in an official press release, confirming the Capcom Showcase would take place on June 13th at 3pm PT. The aforementioned “livestreamed digital event” was teased to involve “upcoming Capcom games” and is mainly centered around “diving deeper” into “details and news on previously announced titles.” Lasting around 35 minutes, the Capcom Showcase is set to stream from both the official Capcom Twitch and YouTube accounts.
While “previously announced” games like Street Fighter 6 and the very ‘not-Dino-Crisis’ Exoprimal are shoe-ins for the event, there’s also the likelihood of the long-awaited Dragon’s Dogma 2 to think about as well. The sudden appearance of a 10th-anniversary website recently reignited suspicions of the medieval RPG sequel, making this new showcase appear all the more telling. In addition, Hideaki Itsuno, director of the original Dragon’s Dogma, retweeted the Capcom Showcase on Twitter, significantly contributing to the online chatter.
Regardless, Capcom has already generated supernatural levels of hype in the last few days at Sony’s recent State of Play event, which brought electrifying reveals for the Resident Evil 4 remake, RE Village VR, as well as the first gameplay for Street Fighter 6. As for the Capcom Showcase, while not too much is confirmed yet, a fair amount of time is already scheduled for the likes of Resident Evil 4 and the new Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise.
What do you think? Could the Capcom Showcase be where Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally revealed, or do you believe Capcom when they suggested “previously announced titles” would feature at the event?
