Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Will Include A Hardcore Mode

Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 Hardcore Mode

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is looking to change up the series in a big way for its upcoming release with the notable introduction of battle royale to the multiplayer proceedings. The new Blackout mode sports a hefty amount of development behind it, to the point where many suspect it could’ve impacted at least one big exclusion of the game. It’s unsurprising this suspicion would mount when recent reports deduced the main game’s Hardcore Mode would also fall by the wayside, but it turns out this wasn’t exactly the case.

The short-lived fervor began when Blackout’s director David Vonderhaar opted to answer a German fan’s query on Twitter, where the enhanced difficulty tier was interpreted to have been missing from multiplayer at launch. However, it seems the response was a victim of misunderstanding, with Vonderhaar actually referring the battle royale mode and its current lack of Hardcore. The director clarified this reality in deleting his original tweet and posting a much more decisive response.

With the Black Ops series and Call of Duty in general featuring a vastly competitive multiplayer, Hardcore Mode has offered a steep spike in difficulty to those elite few up for the challenge. As the name implies, Hardcore is popular for placing players at a significant disadvantage in fundamental ways, such as severely depleted health, friendly fire, and a largely absent HUD. It’s considered the most realistic way to play Call of Duty when compared to the considerably less-punishing core modes.

While Black Ops 4 won’t offer Hardcore for Blackout at launch, it could come sometime down the line as one of the many DLCs headed to the game. That amount of added challenge would be pretty interesting to play out considering the battle royale mode’s already crazy offerings such as hordes of undead from the game’s famed Zombies mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 12th.

What do you think? Are you glad Black Ops 4’s Hardcore Mode is staying put, or would you have rather seen it play out in Blackout instead?
