BioWare Offers Total 'Anthem' Crash Course, Here's What You Need to Know (VIDEO)

As Anthem draws to its upcoming release, BioWare has kicked its marketing into high gear as of late with reveals regarding gameplay, the game’s development, and sharing details about the game’s upcoming demo. The studio is now unleashing a new video series called “This Is Anthem” dedicated toward informing players about the epic upcoming game.

The first in this gameplay series sheds a light on story, progression, and customization, the footage diving deep into Anthem’s harsh, expansive setting and going over the vast options available in customizing players’ Javelin exosuits. We also get a nice helping of lore regarding the world of Anthem and how the dangerous, ever-changing landscape eventually came to be.

The world’s borderline unlivable state can be chalked up to god-like beings called the Shapers, who after starting the process of creating the world of Anthem, didn’t exactly finish the job, leaving the world in a state of chaos. Inhabitants of the remarkably harsh setting are forced to live in fortified cities such as the one players will call home, Fort Tarsis.

Though this is where the main character lays their head, the fun is had on the other side, where players will be able to “fly, swim, fight and explore” with the use of their own Javelin exosuits. However, it’s not all sprawling exploration, as players will also encounter the Dominion, a force of hostile enemies that wish to control the Shapers’ mysterious power: the Anthem of Creation.

Giving context to the game’s Javelins, we also get a look at the four main types of players’ armor: Storm, Ranger, Colossus, Interceptor. Each has their own set strengths such as the Ranger’s focus on firepower and Storm’s penchant for elemental abilities, but the four can be independently customized and modified to follow any user’s specific play style.

In pursuit of this loot, players will be awarded based completing various in-game objectives, including Anthem story missions, NPC quests, and trying their luck in taking down enemy strongholds. Of course, there’s always always the free play mode for carefree exploring as well as just so good old fashioned goofing off. BioWare’s full video, which goes into much greater detail, can be viewed below.

As this is the first of an informative series of videos, we can expect even more about Anthem laid out over the next few weeks as its anticipated launch draws ever closer. The next instalment teases the unveiling of the game’s massive open world as well as how strongholds will operate in the online environment. Anthem itself is set to arrive for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 22nd. A special VIP demo is scheduled to begin beforehand on January 25th.
