New Mad Box Console Concept Images Boast Sleek Touchscreen Design

Mad Box

Microsoft and Sony have long stood above the rest when it comes to high end console gaming. With the recently announced Mad Box quickly gaining traction, however, the two titans may be seeing the birth of a new rival, and an incredibly powerful one at that. New concept images show off some pretty snazzy controllers to compliment the completely redone design that was also recently shared.

Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell recently took to Twitter to show off some incredible concepts of a design similar to Xbox One controllers, but with some pretty sharp lines and snazzy LED accents. There are plenty of modern aspects the controller features, including the standard left and right triggers, AXYB buttons, a directional pad, and thumbsticks.

What truly makes this controller quite interesting is a full touchscreen LED display across the top of it that allows players to access additional information depending on the game being played. For example, the concept images showcase some kind of arcade racing title, with the controller displaying the current speed, gear, or whether or not a boost is available.

The images also indicate that players will be able to use the Mad Box controller to take screenshots on the fly or access in-game chat systems at the touch of a button, in addition to being able to use a built in digital keyboard. Having the ability to see the battery life right on the peripheral and view the current status of the user’s WiFi connection is also a major plus. Lastly, the controller features two rear paddles to give players even more functionality.

This intriguing console is a long way from being a fully released device, but if the developers are able to execute their ambitious plan, it could be one of the greatest consoles to date. Along with the peripherals, Bell mentioned an interesting plan to pay gamers for their time being online. He said that in order to do so, the system would rely on ad-revenue, citing YouTube as a successful source of inspiration.
