Ben Affleck May Not Direct Future Batman Movie – “It’s Not a Set Thing”

Though it was previously reported that DC’s upcoming Batman solo film will indeed be directed by Ben Affleck, the actor recently revealed that this may not be the case. In an interview with The Guardian, Affleck revealed that though he will return to portray the Dark Knight in the future, he may not want to direct the DC film adaptation if the script isn’t up to snuff.

“That’s the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”

It seems the messy execution of last year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice combined with the less-than-favorable reviews from his latest film Live by Night have made him more cautious to take on bigger projects. Since both films were criticized for their seemingly rushed production schedules, Affleck may be putting his foot down to ensure Batman’s next outing will be up to his Oscar-winning standards.

When asked about why he initially signed on to portray Bruce Wayne, Affleck says he took the role to be a superhero for his son:

“Sam thinks his dad is Batman. That’s an incredible feeling.”

The Batman will star Ben Affleck as Batman / Bruce Wayne and True Blood star Joe Manganiello as the super-assassin Deathstroke. No release date has been set as of yet since the film is still in the “drawing board” stages.

Do you thin Affleck would be making the right call if he declines to direct? Was Batman v. Superman a better movie that people give it credit for? Will Joe Manganiello make a good Deathstroke?Let us know in the comments below and be sure to Bat-grapple over to these other DC articles!
