Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Orlog Getting A Physical Tabletop Adaption

Assassins Creed Valhalla Orlog

With the growing size of open-world titles, developers are constantly finding ways to keep players entertained and maintain a sense of liveliness in an in-game world. Games such as CD Project RED’s The Witcher 3 give fans numerous minigames to keep them occupied, such as the ability to play Gwent, a strategic deck builder card game cast between two opponents. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla uses a similar approach, letting players take part in drinking competitions as well as a Viking-themed board game called Orlog.

Following its memorable appearance in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the dice game will soon become playable in real-life as a physical tabletop game coming next year. A recent interview with Dicebreaker indicates that Ubisoft will be working with pop culture collectibles producer PureArts to bring the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla dice game into reality. Unfortunately, there were no details on the game or a release date, but the outlet mentioned the developers are looking at a 2021 window.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

At its core, Orlog sees players roll dice in a series of three turns against an opponent, with the goal of dealing “damage” and depleting their life points. Each round, players choose which dice they want to keep and the ones they choose to reroll on their next turn. Dice with ax symbols deal melee damage and can be blocked with helmets, while bows deal ranged damage and can be blocked with shields. The biggest part of the game revolves around collecting tokens, which are used to invoke various “God Favors” and can deal devastating damage to an opponent. It’s a simple game to learn but can take a bit of time to master.

Whenever the day arrives, it’ll be fun to play a physical copy of Orlog, though, how some of the in-game mechanics will play out still remains to be seen.
