For a while, people worried about Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The usual suspects stomped and pouted over the female protagonist option, a feature which will continue in future AC titles. More relevantly, all of the choices changed the franchise’s linear form we’ve known for years. How would gamers react to a full-on RPG?

As it turns out, they reacted very well, even by the franchise’s lofty standards. According to a press release, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is now the fastest selling AC title on this generation of consoles. Ubisoft has yet to release the official numbers, but “the franchise’s best launch-week performance” speaks volumes. This game, like God of War, might change a company’s bottom line for the year.

Ubisoft exec Geoffroy Sardin explained his company’s exuberance for the sales figures. ”We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players. Launch is just the start of this epic journey. We have robust content plans for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that will keep players engaged and exploring the game’s beautiful and compelling world for a long time to come.”

It should be noted that the standard shift in customer habits continued with this title. Digital sales went up while physical sales decreased. According to Eurogamer, hard copies of the game were down 25% in the United Kingdom from Assassin’s Creed Origins. This trend likely occurred throughout the rest of the world as well. Once the actual figures become available, we’ll know exactly how much digital sales rose by.
