Live-Action Anthem Short Film From Neill Blomkamp Released (VIDEO)
As revealed a few days ago, BioWare announced a collaboration with sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, the District 9 director helming a new short film based on the upcoming video game. Titled ‘Conviction,’ the live-action story was premised to tell an original tale, weaving in elements of the game’s lore and introducing the origins of the world of Anthem.
While the film’s first trailer provided a stunning tease about the cinematic showcase to come, fans can now witness the full film for themselves now that Conviction has made its official premiere online. Blomkamp’s signature effects-driven style is surely on display here as the video takes viewers through a gorgeous montage of Anthem’s origins and following the dramatic adventures of a team of several mech-enhanced Freelancers. Check it out below.
While the above short film is admittedly on the “short” side, it’s extremely evident that some real work went into achieving such an epic-scope experience. A tip of the cap is surely in order for Blomkamp and the filmmakers at Oats Studios, as this seems like it’d be a pretty impressive and hype-worthy experience for anyone, whether they’re anticipating Anthem’s release or not. One thing’s for sure: if Anthem ever becomes a movie, we’ll definitely know who to call first.
BioWare’s timing with this short film is likely a strategic one, as the game is set to be released in only a few days time, a wait made even shorter for those with proper early access permissions. EA Origin Access Premiere members are set to get the game tomorrow (at the time of writing) February 15th, with Basic members instead receiving a limited 10-hour trial. For everyone else, Anthem goes live on February 22nd for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
