Anthem Romance Options Will Not Be A Part Of The Game
Electronic Arts’ EA Play 2018 press conference has kicked off the big round of presentations being made at this year’s E3 show. As promised, EA has provided many new details about their current and upcoming games, including Star Wars Battlefront II, Battlefield V, and the much anticipated Anthem.
BioWare fans have been eager to see the new IP from the beloved developer behind the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series. However, Anthem has certainly looked and felt somewhat different from these other classic franchises, making many to wonder whether Anthem romance options will be a feature in the final game that continues the fan-favorite tradition.
Mike Gamble, who is serving as the lead producer for Anthem, has recently spoken with GameInformer for a cover story. Naturally, the topic of romance options was brought up, given their proliferated use in BioWare games. Fans may be disappointed to hear, as confirmed by Gamble, that romance options will not be a part of the game. As he states:
There are no romances. There are friendships. Some of the stuff we did with Mass Effect – the Citadel DLC specifically – there was a lot of friendship moments. You and Garrus sitting up, shooting – that kind of stuff, we want to lean into that. The romantic stuff, we’re moving away from that for Anthem.”
While this may be sad news for BioWare fans, this decision can certainly be understood when looking at this game’s qualities. The darker environments in the title definitely give off a tone ill-fitting for intimate moments, and the bulkier character designs appear to be more focused on protecting their characters from the environment than from revealing their physical forms for the gaze of others.
Still, Gamble did state that platonic relationships will be a part of the game, and given their track record, BioWare will likely deliver quality dialogue for the characters in Anthem. Not to mention, we will always have Garrus with us in our hearts wherever we go. What do you guys think about the lack of Anthem romance options? Let us know in the comments below!
