BioWare’s new action IP was expected to launch later this year, as was the original. EA appears to have other plans as they announced to investors that an Anthem delay is officially confirmed during their quarterly earnings call. The publisher claims, however, that this is not a delay.

An Anthem delay was already anticipated and reported on by several publishers before the call including the Wall Street Journal. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen noted in the information shared with the WSJ that this decision is not a delay, but with the company retracting their 2018 release it seems a bit contrived to call it anything but a delay.

Little detail was offered by EA during their call or in the Wall Street report. While some suggest it is due to issues with development, EA maintains that they want to put the game out during a less competitive timeframe. Only briefly covering the Anthem dealy in the investor call EA presented it as though they were not delaying the game as well.

Whether the Anthem Delay is due to development issues or a desire to release the game at a time where there are fewer games crowding their space, the company has bought some time to make changes if they want or need to. Unfortunately for EA and BioWare, the move appears more like floundering than a business move. Until more information arrises, or the game releases in 2019, fans will be left to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the delay.
