Rainbow Six Siege Recoil System Getting A Complete Overhaul

Ubisoft took some time in Rainbow Six Siege last year to preform a major overhaul of the game’s performance under the codename Operation Health. The move was a major success but that doesn’t mean everything in the game was fixed. The online title has since continued to improve,  the Rainbow Six Siege recoil system still was majorly flawed. Thankfully, the developers believe they’ve found a fix which they hope will be the balance everyone was hoping for.

According to a recent blog post, the developers have been working on this weapon recoil issue for quite some time. Currently, weapons will occasionally find that bullets stray from their intended target when they shouldn’t causing shots to miss entirely or massively misdirected. This is mainly seen in automatic firing weapons and will be fixed by making changes to the way the game’s recoil mechanics altogether. The game’s test servers will soon see these changes which, in theory, will provide “a clean, tight shooting system that does not cheat players out of a great show of skill.”

The post also describes just how the developers hope to go about fixing this issue by moving away from predictable recoil:

We prototyped several technical solutions to correct the issue over the last year, but they all had significant drawbacks. We were not comfortable moving forward with the majority of those solutions. The solution we landed on shifted how recoils behave, making them trivial to control so all recoils had to be re-done in the new system. We tested some major adjustments to the foundations of the recoil equation on the TTS in September 2017. Following feedback from that Test Server session, we changed how we were going to go about addressing the issue. As such, we have moved away from predictable recoil patterns, and found another solution that does not involve predictable recoil.”

Rainbow Six Siege is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The title has entered its third year with a bang featuring a highly popular limited time cooperative zombies gamemode and hopes to continue improving as the year goes on.
