Mortal Kombat Movie Premiere Pushed Back By Warner Bros.
The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is close at hand, set to bring fans a glorious and brutal adventure into the world of bloody and gruesome combat between martial artists in a bid for the universe itself. Unfortunately, while the film was originally set to arrive on April 16th of this year, it has been pushed back. While oftentimes films, games, and more that get pushed back see months or years between the original and new dates, fans won’t have that much longer to wait before Mortal Kombat lands in theaters.
A recent report explains that with today’s premiere of Godzilla vs. Kong, the producers are looking to spread out the two films in order to maximize its sales. With the restrictions on theater capacity due to COVID expected to be lifted ever so slightly in the coming weeks, it makes sense to try and wait a little longer before launching the film in question. Regardless of the official reasoning behind the delay, Warner Bros. is now looking to premiere Mortal Kombat on April 23rd, just a week after the originally intended release date.
The upcoming gorefest of a film is directed by Simon McQuoid and will follow the tale of an MMA fighter who finds himself in the middle of a mystical and deadly war between worlds, all the while interacting with a variety of characters within the Mortal Kombat franchise that fans know and love. Differing from the original 1995 film, the new adaptation is set to be a much more violent experience and has even received an official R-rating. The Mortal Kombat movie, along with WB’s slate of 17 big movies, are each set to dual-release in theaters and streaming service HBO Max on the same date.
