Zuckerbergs Shows What It’s Like to Be Spider-Man with New Oculus Rift Prototype Gloves

Prototype Gloves

The world of virtual reality is continuously growing every single day, bringing gamers and other users closer to a more technologically-immersive world than ever before. Recently Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook and working partners with Oculus, revealed that he completed a tour of Oculus’ research facility in Redmond, Washington, and got a chance to try out the newest accessory from the virtual reality gaming company: a pair of gloves that let you manipulate the game’s reality with your own hands. These prototype gloves are definitely not ready to grace store shelves just yet, but Zuckerberg has given us a first-look at this new accessory’s capabilities, and so far, they look pretty sweet.

Unlike the Oculus Touch, these gloves offer a much more articulated approach to in-game function. These simple white gloves were form-fitted to Zuckerberg’s hands, according to the photos, which looks to give the player a much more comfortable approach to manipulating the game’s functions without the bulk of holding a chunky controller in each hand. It also looks like, from the photos, that the prototype gloves use some sort of OptiTrack sensors to trigger actions in the game, though they haven’t gone into detail as to exactly how these gloves work. Even still, from the look of Zuckerberg’s smile and the very obvious “web slinging” pose he’s striking in the above pictures, we really can’t wait to get our hands on these gloves and be our very own Spidey!

These gloves definitely hold promising appeal for future gamers everywhere. Unfortunately, they don’t appear to hold the RBG lights that are making waves as the next fashion trend on the market, like these fashion-only gloves do. Who knows? Maybe in the future, developers will be able to combine the two into one, ultra pair of gaming gloves that light up as fabulously as we like! We’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you think of the Oculus gloves Mark Zuckerberg tried out? Are you excited for a chance to try these out in the near future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and game on! Don’t forget to also follow us on Twitter for live gaming and entertainment news 24/7!
